While Jennifer Lawrence, Kim Kardashian and other A-listers have suffered the wrath of hackers leaking their somewhat personal pics online, it seems you don’t have to be rich and famous to become a target.
The Guardian reports today that more than 200,000 images have been stored and ultimately distributed – apparently be the same group behind the celebrity photo leak.
Snapchat allows users to take an image and send it to a friend, or group of friends, and then promptly deletes it once it has been viewed by the receiver/s. But an unrelated site, known as Snapsaved, has prompted the app’s users to save these images where they have been stored on a third party site and later leaked.

Apparently, the majority of ‘Snaps’ were boring images of puppies, new shoes and a smattering of nude selfies of nobodies or headless figures. So what was the point?
The situation basically highlights once again that nothing is safe, including things that we deem to be of a personal nature, therefore if you don’t want something to be seen maybe don’t broadcast it on the internet or even discreetly send to a friend via a message.
Snapchat’s response was this:
“We can confirm that Snapchat’s servers were never breached and were not the source of these leaks. Snapchatters were victimised by their use of third-party apps to send and receive Snaps, a practice that we explicitly prohibit in our terms of use precisely because they compromise our users’ security.”
